England reached an unprecedented level of dominance in Test cricket in 2024, posting a declared total of 823 for seven against Pakistan in Multan. The innings is the fourth-highest team total in the long history of Test cricket, and only the fourth occasion on which a team has passed the 800-run mark. It stands as England's highest post-World War II Test score, a testament to an aggressive and clinical batting approach.

Brook's Triple Century

Harry Brook's monumental innings of 317 against Pakistan in that same Multan Test is the fifth-highest Test score by an Englishman, making him only the sixth English player to reach a Test triple century. His innings of 310 balls stood, at the time, as the second-fastest Test triple century in history — a marker of his aggressive approach at the crease.

Sir Leonard Hutton's historic 364, by contrast, was established during the Fifth Test at The Oval in 1938 — an innings that lasted 13 hours and 20 minutes. It surpassed the previous landmark and remains the highest individual Test score by any England batsman, a testament to unparalleled focus and endurance.

Joe Root and Harry Brook's 454-run stand in Multan surpassed all previous England Test partnership records, placing the Root–Brook partnership among the most prolific ever recorded in the game's history and setting the world record for the fourth wicket.

Two Limited-Overs World Titles

Following their historic 2019 One-Day World Cup title, Jos Buttler's side captured a dominant T20 World Cup victory in 2022, defeating Pakistan in the final at the MCG. Highlighted by an excellent bowling performance that restricted Pakistan to 137 and an exceptional batting display anchored by Ben Stokes, the win made England the first nation in cricket history to hold both major limited-overs world titles simultaneously.

England had reached the pinnacle of men's ODI cricket in 2019, defeating New Zealand in an extraordinary final at Lord's. The match was tied at the end of regular play, and a dramatic Super Over also finished tied; England was declared champions on the boundary-countback rule (since repealed), having hit more boundaries across the match — a landmark victory that established England among the greats of the one-day game.

Bat, Ball and Captaincy Records

Adil Rashid became the first England men's player to reach 200 ODI wickets, in 2024 — a milestone that reflects his consistency and unique leg-spin talents across a long white-ball career.

Alastair Cook set a long-standing Test run-scoring benchmark of 12,472 runs across 59 Test caps as captain, a mark subsequently surpassed by Joe Root, who has gone on to become England's all-time leading run-scorer in Test matches. Among England's bowlers, James Anderson and Stuart Broad formed the most prolific Test fast-bowling partnership in history, combining for 1,039 wickets across their careers together.
